Born Karakovishchi (Smolensk), 10 July 1874

Died Moscow, 9 October 1971

Konenkov studied 1892-1896 at the Arts School in Moscow under Ivanov and Volnukhin. He won the Tretiakov price and travelled from it to Germany, France, Switserland and Italy. From 1899 to1902 he worked under Trubetskoi and studied at the Academy in St. Petersburg under Beklemishev. In 1919 he was co-founder of the 'Monolit' group of sculptors. From 1923 till 1945 he lived in the USA. After the war in 1945 he returned to Moscow.
