After being denied to study in Kiev (because of jewish descent) Kirk exiled to Lemberg (Lvov). In 1910 he emigrated to the USA and held classes during week-ends at the Graphic Sketch Club in Philadelphia. From 1915 to1919 he studied under Hugh Breckenridge, Daniel Garber and others at the Pennsylvania Art Academy in Philadelphia. In 1925 he left six month for Europe and in 1927 he visited France, Russia and Spain. In 1936-37 he visited Russia again. From 1920 till the 1940s he was a member of the Alliance of American Artists. |
