Kibirov’s accordion is a collection of poetry written by the Moscow poet Timur Kibirov (1955). Karasik lithographed the text in white on both sides of black paper. The paper is harmonica folded in 16 parts (32 pages) with half pages at both ends of the paper mounted inside two cardboard sheets covered in red paper. The front and back covers are lithographed in white and have collage additions of fabric, leather, and buttons. These are composed in such a way that they create the appearance of a bayan, a Russian accordion. Karasik finished only 9 of these ‘accordions’ despite the fact he printed 17 copies of the text. Each finished copy is kept in a box or instrument case that is closed by either leather straps or bra straps. The inside of the boxes has been decorated by a collage of photographs taken from issues of the magazine Ogonyok from 1967. |
