Kantorov, son of an active revolutionary who was shot during the purges in 1937. During the second World War he fought with the parisans.He graduated 1950 from the Kostroma Art school and studied at the Moscow Surikov institute graphics under B. Dekhterev. To avoid the scrutiny of the state censors he became an illustrator of children's books.
