Paris: La Russie Illustré, 1924 - 1939

 

Illustrated Russia was published in 748 issues during its over 15 years of existence. From September 1, 1924 to December 15, 1925 the magazine was published once every two weeks and from Januari1, 1926 until the every week. It is a monumental chronicle dealing with all aspects of life of the Russian emigration worldwide. Its founder and first editor was Miron Petrovich Mironov who had to leave his post in July 1932 because of helath reasons. His successor was Aleksandr Ivanovich Kuprin who had to leave in July 1926 because of age and health reasons. The Magazine was bought by the industrialist and financier B.A. Gordon who headed the magazine until its end in the mid-1939. On its pages, the magazine presents its readers photographic narratives, stories, poetry memoirs, historical essays, art critics and reports on the socio-political, cultural and educational everyday life of the entire Russian Diaspora.The general direction of the journal can be characterized as liberal and non-partisan, only Bolshevism remained unacceptable.
