Ignatovich worked as a journalist and editor before he took up photography in 1923. He was influenced by Aleksandr Rodchenko and joined the October group. After Rodchenko had been expelled from the group, Ignatovich took over as head of the group until it was dissolved by the government in 1932. He was the first aerial photographer of the Soviet Union and took a pioneering role in the development of collective photography.
