Gorokhovskii studied from 1948 to 1+954 at the Odessa Institute of Engineering and at the Odessa Art School. In 1954 he moved to Novosibirsk where he worked as an architect. In 1974 he moved to Moscow, becoming one of the first conceptual artists using photography.
