Small Macaroni is a collection of war poems by ten contemporary poets. The title is in Ukrainian but the text in Russian. In his introduction Goppe tells the story of Pliny the Elder’s death following the eruption of the Mount Vesuvius in 70 AD. Goppe does not explain why he choose this story as an introduction nor why he included some deliberate misspellings. He illustrated the book with silkscreen texts printed on original photographs and colour lithographs on alternate pages. The erotic photographs are adorned with ancient Soviet slogans such as “Famers, vote for further development of collective agriculture”.
