Violets are the subject of Konstantin Kedrov’s ‘Violetiade’. Kedrov (born 1942) is poet, scholar, artist, philosopher, and teacher in one person. In his philosophy he argues that the growth of a plant is similar to the birth of poetry and that plants like verses can undergo a metamorphosis into butterflies. That is why Van Gogh painted sunflowers, Monet, water lilies and Kedrov composed this poem about violets. Goppe printed this poem on lilac paper and illustrated the verses with collages and colour silkscreen prints.
