‘Whims’ and ‘About a square, poems for children’ are books with two different kinds of poetry for which Goppe adapted his designs. For ‘Whims’ he created 12 pages, including the title page, with letter print over collages of pieces of coloured paper or photographs. For ‘About a square’ Goppe designed 13 naturalistic and colourful illustrations that have nothing in common with the revolutionary art of the Russian avant-garde. The difference in designs between ‘Whims’ and ‘About a square’ could not have been more striking and shows the enormous flexibility with Goppe creates his books.
