Boris Zakhoder (1918-2000), poet and children’s author, is best known for his Russian translations of ‘Winnie-the-Pooh’ and ‘Alice’s adventures in Wonderland’. One of his own children’s books is ‘The hermit and the Rose’, a collection of stories. For this book Goppe choose old maps to print on the text and his etchings, in all four pages. In 199, not long before Zakhoder’s death,, during a visit Goppe had a photograph taken after the author had written a dedication in the book. On the back of the title page of this copy this photo is mounted. Adding the photograph to the autograph gives the book a more personal character, which is typical for Goppe’s relations with the authors he prints and illustrates.
