Frikh-Khar, born into a family of Jewish winegrowers, started modeling and carving, while working at a local tannery shop. In 1914 he was mobilized and fought and became in 1917 a volunteer red guard. After the war he worked as a teacher of drawing and sculpting in an orphanage in Tomilin (near Moscow. In 1922 he settled in Moscow where he worked in stone and ceramics at the Konakovo porcelain factory. He is well known for the ceramic panels he made for the USSR Agricultural Exhibition
