In 1941 Dolgopolov graduated from the Moscow Art institute where he had studied under A. Deineka. He started working as a painter and graphic artist and became - in 1958- the main designer of the Magazine Ogonek. In 1974 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR. He also illustrated many books.
