Dmitriev studiet at the Moscow Studio of F. Rerberg during his law studies at the Moscow University. He started working as a painter of landscapes with images of monuments of ancient Russian architectures. From 1914 he worked as a theatrical designer for performances at the Bolshoi Theatre. After the October revolution he worked for travelling theaters. He died of appendicitis.
