Chizhikov studied 1953-1958 at the Moscow Polygraphic Instute under p. Zakharov and privately under M. Kupriyanov. He was a prolific illustrator for the children's magazines Veselye kartinki since 1958 and Murzilka since 1959. He worked mainly as an illustrator of children's books.
