Шемякин, Михаил Михайлович

Painter, sculptor, graphic artist.

Born Moscow, 4 May 1943

Chemiakin grew up in Dresden, Eastern Germany. He studied 1957-1959 at the Repin Art School in Leningrad. In 1962 he had his first exhibition and in 1969 he illustrated his first book: The Spanish Epigrammes. In 1972 he had to leave Russia and settled in Paris. In 1976 he moved to the state of New York where he lived and worked in Claverack until 2010. He now lives and works in France.
