Died Leningrad, 4 December 1929

 

Chashnik moved with his family to Vitebsk in 1913, where he worked as a watchmaker's apprentice. From 1915 to 1918 he studied at Yehud Pen's studio and 1919 to 1922 at the Vitebsks Art School under Chagall, Lissitzky and foremost under Malevich. Together with Lazar Khidekel he headed the faculty of Architecture in Vitebsk until 1922. Together with Malevich's Institute of Artistic Culture group he settled 1923 in Leningrad where he starte working for the State Porcelain Factory. He died after an appendix operation in Leningrad.
