Carrick (Karrik) was the son of the Edinburgh born photographer and water colorist William Carrick and the Russian born Aleksandra Markelova. He had no formal artistic training and started working as a caricaturist for Iskry, Zhupel and other famous satirical journals from the 1905s. Between 1912 and 1919 he wrote and illustrated a series of picture books that were published in St. Petersburg. At the end of the First World War Carrick emigrated to Norway where he settled in Oslo working mainly as a caricaturist and translator. |
