Butrova studied from 1918 to 1920 at the Leningrad Vkhutein and at the studios of V. Lebedev and V. Denisov. From 1926 she co-operated with magazines Ezh, Chizh, and  Murzilka. She illustrated with the publishers Detgiz and Lenizdat.
