Bilibin studied 1895-1898 at the St. Petersburg Society for the Promotion of the Arts and 1896-1900 at the faculty of law. In 1898 he studied art under Azbe in München. From 1898 to 1900 he worked with princess Tenisheva and 1900-1904 with Ilia Repin. In 1900 he became a member of the Mir Iskusstva. He left Russia in 1919 and lived 1920-1925 in Egypt and 1925-1936 in Paris. In 1936 he returned to Leningrad.
