Beliaev studied at the Moscow 1905 Art School under F. Nevezhin, V. Baksheev and N. Krymov.  After his military service during the second world war, he studdie from 1946 to 1952 at the Leningrad Repin Institute under, a.o. A. Platunov, B. Fogel and B. Ioganson.
