Babanovsk graduated from the Moscow School of Fine Arts named after the 1905 revolution. He worked for the magazines Smena, Sputnik and the publishing house "Moscow Worker". In 1981, he emigrated to the United States, where he worked as an illustrator for the publishing house Courage Books.
