Arkhangelskii studied in Simbirsk (Ulianovsk) with P. Puzyrevskii. In 1909 he followed a course in Drawing in St. Petersburg. In 1913 he graduated from the St. Petersburg Art Academy as a teacher of drawing. He returned to Simbirsk where he worked as an author, artist, teacher and local historian. In 1934 he moved to the neigbourhood of Moscow.
