Allegro (Poliksena Soloveva) was the daughter of the historian and rector of the Moscow University Serge Solovev. She published her first poem in 1885, but continued to paint. In 1895 she moved to St. Petersburg where she again started publishing poetry using the name Allegro. Soloveva was a particpant to the bohemian life of the Imperial Capital at that time. Together with her lifelong companinon, the children's writer Natalia Manaseina (1869-1930), she published the children's journal Tropinka (The Path) for which she wrote and designed illustrations. |
