Afaneseva, daughter of an army officer, grew up in Harbin where she had here first lessons in art. In 1918 she moved to Vladivostok and attended there classes in drawing, composition and portraiture. In 1923 she was sent to Moscow to enter the VkUTEMAS where she studied under N.Kupreyanov and graduated in 1929. In 1930she started working as an illustrator for State Childeren's Publishing House. After the war she worked as a portraitist next to continue her work as an illustrator of children's books and - journals.
